Concrete Sculpture
Cubic Geometry Six:32
This sculpture is part of a series I began in 2015 and return to regularly. Each piece is built within a strict six-by-six-by-six inch cube, using a grid of 256 voxels. The format is a constraint, but one I find both challenging and comforting. It reduces the process to a kind of essential thinking, where every move has to count.
These works are strongly influenced by Brutalist architecture. The material is left raw and honest, the forms are compact, layered, and deliberate. I avoid embellishment and let the structure do the work. Within this tight volume, I explore how space can be divided, balanced, and made to feel solid and intentional.
The scale makes it easy to handle and explore closely, but the object still carries weight—physically and visually. It stands somewhere between model and monument, a small study in structure, mass, and repetition. Over time, these cubes have become a way to test ideas and revisit core principles through simple, modular form.
